In 1972, Broniec Associates pioneered the contingency-based accounts
payable audit. Our clients invited us to audit their accounts payable
processes, and we agreed to fund our engagements by sharing any
overpayments that we recovered.
Today this contingency funding arrangement is the norm in the accounts
payable recovery audit field. However, our competitors seem to have
lost sight of the primary objective; to conduct a comprehensive
audit, and learn from it. Instead, their focus is on recovering
as much money as they can while expending as little effort as they
can get away with. Picking the low-hanging fruit, if you will. The
audit -- if you dare call it that -- is simply the means to that
